What is with all the beta stuff recently?

First up, we got Gorochu mentioned in an interview, then we got a few Gen 1 beta Pokemon in that manga, and now we have the beta version of Gen 2 with loads of new and redesigned Pokemon. This is insane. So much content over the course of a month. Is this really all a coincidence?

The Gen 2 stuff is, they got it off of a mislabeled cartridge that was in someone's house after they died or something. As for the Gen 1 stuff, who knows? We are getting Kanto games next, after all.
