So we can finally prove what Pokemon the hex codes really stood for now, right? Teddiursa and Slugma and Swinub and Pokemon that people CLAIMED the hex codes stood for weren't even in Gen 2's beta so how could they be from gen 1?

Just swap out the number for the beta Pokemon that took it's place and it ALL makes sense.

You have it completely wrong.

Those names are what the MISSINGNO actually convert to in the Gen 2 we have now. It just goes down the line through all the openings and it picks up again when the Kanto Pokemon run out.

It's nothing to do with what was cut from those spots.

Yeah, but if the gen 2 Pokemon switched places from the beta version, then some of them would've swapped hex codes as well.

No. The Pokemon in G/S Beta filled the empty slots from RGB after they reached 251. We know that Deer, Crocky, Elephant, Cactus and Jaggu were in those numbers anyway.

this beta is so different it may as well be a different game, it doesn't tell us anything

By the way! As a preview I'll give you a following tidbit - Mr. Mime and Mewtwo are the ONLY unevolved Pokemon in the Gen 1 games that have two of the same move in their moveset - Confusion and Psychic respectively. This trait is very common among evolved Pokemon (just check any Gen 1 moveset). This suggests that these two had preevolutions.
And then there's the name "Baririina" in the voting brackets as seen in the Satoshi Tajiri manga...

That just gives even more credence that baby Pokemon were planned in gen 1.

Also, maybe Mew was supposed to be a pre-evo of Mewtwo?

Mew was supposedly designed, programmed and put into the first available blank spot after the development ended. It was made to resemble Mewtwo (probably called something else then), but then again if there indeed was a Mewtwo preevolution... Well, we don't know until we see more dev documents.

The backstory of Mew and Mewtwo was already in the game on Cinnabar island. Mewtwo was also already in the game as well. One of the programmers (who probably also did all the placeholder Pokemon designs) snuck Mew in before the game was released.

They probably originally just planned on Mew being a mysterious Pokemon who would never appear.
