Farfetch'd is based on Japanese saying「鴨が葱を背負って来る」, literally translating to "a duck comes bearing green onions". As a saying, it means "something surprising but convenient".

You know what is also a surprising duck? The ulgy duckling that becomes a swan.

You know? I think the whole concept of Farfetch'd and "Madamu" is the Ugly Duckling: a duck-based Pokémon that is hated because it can't evolve (by that time) and ends evolving into a swan-like Pokémon, and is not hated anymore... but Game Freak dropped the ball in not giving the like Ugly Farfetch'd a very needed beautiful evolution, not even a Mega, just an item that lets it to do critical hits starting with Gen 6, but with those low stats it means nothing.

The idea behind Lugia was created by Takeshi Shudo who directed the pokemon anime and the first 3 movies at the time.

Who created design for lugia is unknown so its possible it could of been based of a scrapmon
