not op but the cities from the beta closely resemble the cities in later games (especially sinnoh, with canalave and snowpoint city, although i cant really see how the hoenn part is hoenn, other than that is the region of japan that inspired hoenn)

Nah. Hoenn and Sinnoh are Kyushu and Hokkaido, which are mostly cut off on this map. Only the westernmost tropical city would be Hoenn, and only the snowy town in the northeast corner would be Hoenn.

Also, Johto has some of Shikoku in it with Cianwood City and the HGSS Safari Zone, so the pink town in the lower left part of the map would also be Johto.

According to the in-game map is should be more like pic related. The other cities are parts of Japan that were never made into regions, like Tohoku between Kanto and Sinnoh.

Geographically yes, but the town north of Kanto closely resembles Canalave City.

You're right about Shikoku (the town north of it also has the Ruins of Alph), but I included the surrounding islands to Kyushu because it wouldn't be Hoenn without too much water.

I think it's because both the beta "Canalave" and the Sinnoh Canalave are based on cities famous for their bridges, so GF reused the layout

Interesting how 'snowpoint' is the bottom tip of Hokkido. Makes me wonder that if they went with this map they would they have had 'Sinnoh' with an overlap of that town?

Looks like all the locations shown at https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon_Gold_and_Silver_beta#First_screenshots are there, except for the Silent Hills screenshot on that page (pic related), can't seem to find that anywhere on the map.

I guess this build is from later in development sometime after Silent Hills got rearranged. Also kinda convinces me that it's probably legit, since a fan-hack definitely wouldn't have forgotten to include the infamous Silent Hills pic.
(there's also the code itself looking much more unfinished too, eg. compare https://github.com/pret/pokegold-spaceworld/blob/master/home/audio.asm to https://github.com/pret/pokegold/blob/master/home/audio.asm, PlaySFX is missing a bunch of extra checks that the final build has)

Oh yeah hmm, I'm thinking that could be the second-from-bottom-left town with the radio tower, has almost the same kind of fences, and the PC in that town kinda seems to match the building in the screenshot.

Who knows though, they probably rearranged tons of stuff, let's just hope the people who released this have other builds to go through.
