This is meant to appeal more to casuals. The "chibi-cute" look successfully does that. They already confirmed the 2019 titles will be part of the "true" core series, in the same vein as X/Y and S/M. Gen 8 will most likely be an improved version of the US/UM art style.

I mean, yeah. They are alike. Lighting and textures are just paint, and underlying all the nice and shiny paint, both these games have the same lazy blocky world design. You can paint over shit all you want; it's still shit underneath.

This is no excuse for one of the most profitable game developing studio in the world that had access to the Switch dev kit since who knows when.
