It's supposed to be a take on Ferrofluid, aka a type of liquid metal.

When applied to magnets it warps and goes into a spike.

The idea is metal coat has that effect on Ditto, and it doesn't seem to be a nice experience for the poor thing:(

How different is it from Ditto? Did it get any new moves or anything? Surely they wouldn't just plan a spikey ditto evo without it having a new gimmick.

It has water gun, double slap and low kick. I theorize it was going to be a faster and bulkier ditto (since without imposter ditto is useless).

It has Water Gun, and two other strange moves besides Transform.

It's theorized it probably was going to have some move stealing gimmick that could fill out the rest of its moveset kind of like Trace.
