Keep in mind, a gen 2 tangela evolution would be guaranteed to be PU. At least making the evolution in gen 4 let it be viable

I don't want Tangrowth to be replaced by Gelanla, I want both of them branched similar to Gardevoir and Gallade. If I recall correctly, Tangrowth was really only viable during the beginning of D/P anyway, though it was fun while it lasted.

Tons of other cross gen evos from Johto were relevant up until gen V. Meanwhile Magmortar, Leafeon and Electivire have been shit since basically day 1.

I've always liked Tangela's design, and it really hurts to see two perfect designs for the line be passed up like that. Gelanla should at least come back as a split evo, but gamefreak would never do that because it would be admitting they fucked up.

What if Gelanla was both the female evolution using a certain item as well as the main way to get the baby: breeding Gelanla always produces Tangel, which learns Ancient Power at level 29 for a faster Tangrowth?

Yeah, Ground types have completely taken over OU, and thanks to thousand arrows, even flying types aren't safe. Tangrowth with its massive defense is the perfect wall against most ground types with regenerator/leech seed/power whip/sleep powder.

This is another reason not making proper Kanto retreads is asinine.
