>>35771190The base models are washed out naturally (easiest to see in Go, since I'm fairly certain any lighting is purely neutral), but it seemed more washed out in XY to USUM because GF didn't bother to make the rest of the world fit the color of the pokemon. The backgrounds were hyper saturated in those games, which makes the Pokemon look grey by comparison.
There's nothing inherently wrong with less-saturated colors schemes. It's why no one thought Sugi art looked bad, because they didn't present his middle-saturation colors against neon backgrounds.
In the case of LGPE they actually got it right for once, since the rest of the image is properly toned in relation to the pokemon. In addition, they have a better lighting engine which naturally ties in the coloring together and properly shades the pokemon (another issue that the XY to USUM had). It's hard to gauge, but it seems like the lighting has a very soft blue filter over it to give it a sunny look, but that's just a guess.
So yes they do to a degree, but its a good thing.
