I've personally also used it for other games too. In one game I play, for example, there's a ton of equipment and I just always bought whatever I liked on most of my characters and I had basically done everything it was possible to do, I knew it so well I could even solo the entire thing at that point. An MMORPG that normally allows 6+ users in an instance, mind you.
There was no challenge left for me... I like collecting though and then one day the challenge came to me. How much cool shit could I collect without leveling even once? And thus the Levelocke was born.
Though I guess I'm the only one I'm aware of who actually knows the name, despite the fact that quite a few copy cats have appeared in the 4 or so years since. I think the rest just think it's the "How rich can I look? Contest." because most of them just buy everything that's available for microtransactions. Which I've done, to be fair, but only things I like.
I actually prefer specifically buying items for the in-game currency since it's nigh impossible to get without leveling up.
