The only games in the series that aren't sequels to the Gen 1 games are Gen 3.

Gen 1 and 3 take place at the same time while the rest occur up to 10 years later.

it's mainline as it's set in Kanto, rather than orre or somewhere completely arbitrary/new, but it's not core, when it only shares capturing as a mechanic with the rest of the core series.

There are some glitches and oversights in the games, either of their incompetence or size limitations meaning they had to cut shit.
Some are easier to find, likely even on a casual playthrough (like the sound distortion at low HP), some are less straightforward (like Mew glitch) and then there are these which are quite out of the way (like link battle desynchronization moves)
