I would argue it has already happened. I initially wasnt hot on X/Y but after turning off exp share and nuzlocking it i began to appreciate a lot about it, the pacing is still a fuck fest and the story is meh as with most pokemon games but overall i enjoyed them. Same with ORAS

Only because they look better compared to the trash we get now. Gen 6 was never good, it's just better then gen 7 and LGPE.

XY wasn't that bad, it just needed that third version polish to issues. I'd say XY are comparable to DP in that sense, both being the first pairs on new hardware. Though XY will age better than DP ever did, so it has that going for it.

I don't like what oras did with SR's content though. feels like lesser versions of the originals (ot even talking about emeralsd) content wise.
the delta episode was the worst part of any pokemon ever
