Because, well, of course he's going to defend his friends and be aggressive about it. That doesn't mean he knows, or that he's involved, or that he's fine with it. I've read Eevee's blog post about the situation, and while I think the situation is a bit suspicious, you can clearly see that he's saying they never did anything bad. If he's lying to everyone online, chances are he's lying to at least some of his friends, too.
I obviously wouldn't be able to defend anyone if there was some kind of proof though. But having interacted with and having appreciated someone who turned out to be a criminal doesn't make you a bad person.
Maybe I'm wrong and they're all awful people, I'm wiling to accept that, particularly because I'm not even close to any of them. But so should you.
