I'm looking at this game purely as a spin off (even though it's not) or something more akin to Pokemon stadium. I'm less mad about the announcement and have since pre ordered the game. I'm just worried the side effect it will have on the main series games if it's popular because i don't want it to be anything like this. Pokemon GO had 100 million Downloads, and the trailer for LGPE already has 7 Million views in 5 days.

Repels are your friend. Also by "wild battles" I should've said "capture mechanics". In all prior games you had to weaken wild pokemon before you could capture them and this added a challenge when it came to capturing pokemon. LGPE copies from GO in the sense that there's no effort required to capture pokemon. That's pretty lame if you ask me.

Wild battles I've always hated I saw them as a roadblock to the battling. Legendary encounters needs to be a thing though like raid battles in GO

60+60+50 = 170.00 USD altogether, but with tax probably more like 195 - 200.00 USD

That's not a lot, at all. That's not even a drop in the bucket. It's pennies. I'm buying 6 and creating different shells for the pokeballs so I'll have different appearances and will wear them around my belt. My full team

6x50 = 300 (without tax)
60+60 = 120 (without tax)
Plus the pokeball shells (probably from etsy)
Altogether without tax? 600.00
With tax? Close to 650.00

I'll round it to 700.00. Still just a drop in the bucket. And that's what I'll be spending. :^)

Can somebody explain to a latefag why everyone hates these games? So far the negatives seem to be some sort of optional Pokemon Go integration, and changed catching mechanics (w/ motion controls).

Think of all the other ways they could have fucked it up. At least it looks and feels like a post-gen 5 Pokemon game, and it's not like they were gonna make a pixel art Pokemon on the Switch anyway. I must be missing some big detail that has everyone pissed off.

The only thing optional about it is whether or not you use Go with it. But the entire experience has been dumbed down to more closely simulate the Go experience in an R/B/Y package. Most of the critical features that have been added over the years have been stripped out.

The other issue is that Go was a huge success among the normie set, though people here like to blame genwunners for that. GameFreak has been steadily simplifying the overall experience little by little for years now. If LGPE succeeds it will likely prompt GameFreak to retire the core games as we know them in favor of it.

Plus, people-- correctly --think it looks like shit and a massive step back for the series.

Everything. It's literally going to be a remake of Pokemon Yellow with a Pokemon Go aesthetic. To that end we're also losing wild battles, basic controls in favor of a one-handed stick/gesture system, no GTS, limited online battling and no random encounters. CP also appear to visually replace Pokemon stats as well.

Basically, these are the Nintendo Land version of Generation I remakes, set in a modestly 3D modeled version of Kanto. These only exist as an extension of Go, they're companion games meant to reflect that experience and appeal to people that play Go.

It's hilarious watching people complain about the Trials replacing gyms in Sun/Moon after a decade of watching people daydream aobut an Orange Islands inspired quest where you proved your proficiency with Pokemon by means other than traditional gym battles.

This is probably as close as they could ever get to that and the concept was pretty much derived entirely from the culture/background of the Hawaiian Islands, so I don't see the trial system coming back in that form if they move the region to someplace plausible like England or Germany (which happen to be the fourth and fifth top vacation locations for Japanese tourists following New York, France, and Hawaii, which happened to get their own regions in that exact order).
