Game Freak has taken a page from Call of Duty and is moving to a longer development cycle for games.
Currently CoD releases on a cycle from Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch. I think Game Freak is doing basically the same thing internally. So we'll get Let's Go this year, gen 8 in 2019, a third version or gen 4 remakes in 2020, and then a new Let's Go in 2021 will start the cycle again.
