I wanted FireRed and I remember finding that my mom had bought it for me a few days after the start of the fifth grade. Once again, I played it quite a bit and did all the post-game Sevii Island stuff. I thought there were a lot of nifty things in it like the Teachy TV, the help button, showing replays of the last four things you did, item sprites, and the fact that it was a remake of the game I had wanted around 5-6 years prior. There was neat stuff, but it didn't exactly stick with me like Silver did. But I remember that it was around this time, probably later that year, that I was on SuperCheats and I found a page for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, but nothing was known about them other than the names.
Flash forward to mid-May 2005, and Pokémon Emerald is out. I'm 11 years old and I see it at Walmart. I remember thinking "Oh, that's out. Should I buy it? I mean it's Pokémon..." while also eyeing a shiny new Game Boy micro that was priced $60 CAD. In the end, I chose Emerald, but I still kinda regret not having a Game Boy micro. That thing was slick. As for my playthrough, it was about the same as Ruby. I went with Torchic, but I also had a Breloom that acted as my other main Pokémon, and I even had a Flygon at some point. I remember the cloning glitch, my first time reaching the Battle Frontier, some of the differences across the game, not using Legendary Pokémon in battles anymore (might have started this in FR), and trying to catch every Legendary in a plain Poké Ball including Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza. Like it was a game that I would play over Ruby because it was outright better, but it still didn't make me fall in love with it.
