Haven't been defending it because I haven't felt it's really been attacked, but the chibi style is absolutely more Pokémon.
Go look at the sprites and tell me Gen 7's models look more like them than the Gen 6 models do. Hint: They don't. At all.
Reality in games is nonsense. Style is what matters and Gen 6 and LGP/LGE is by far a better style for the series than "make all the things look real for no reason".
LGP/LGE being trash in every other way doesn't make that trash.
You don't think they went back to it randomly, did you? They know people will like the style more if they like the old games.
