If these games are as watered down and as low-quality as they appear, with removal of core gameplay elements and complete pandering to mobile gaming, then it's going to be the death of the series in the long run in my opinion.
Just look at similar games like Yo-kai Watch, or Digimon. They were successful for a while because of their gimmicks, but they soon faded into obscurity. Pokemon is still relying on the nostalgia from the initial fans of the series as well, and it's not going to last forever.
A gimmicky Pokeball throwing simulator is going to get stale pretty fast. And people won't keep paying for sub-par games. Just look how fast the interested in Pokemon GO started to fade off.
