This is an excuse for people who never played the new games or bothered to even look into them. There are some fantastic designs from newer games like Haxorus and Golispod, just as there are some terrible designs from gen 1 like Jynx.
If GF's goal was to condense the roster for a more casualized approach, why not mix up the generations. Of course gen 1 being the most popular can have the most Pokemon, but it wouldn't hurt to bring in more popular later gen Pokemon like Lucario in, as well as cross-gen evos.
