I would do the exact same thing except add a postgame to x/y, add oras battle frontier, and release Z. Then have a gap year and release something much better than S/M and have a dex with over 110 pokemon

I'd have it so it was normal up to B2W2 and in that timeline they sold exceptionally well.
Even if you don't like gen 5 it would be interesting to see what the timeline would be like if the soft reboot kicked off.

Nah I like gen 5 for being a reboot, keep BW2. Make Unova feel more American though, add some mons based of American Myths and wildlife. Make Braviary a bald eagle damn it.
Make gen 6 one game, same with gen 7. Megas, Z moves, regional forms and UBs all stay.
