>>35803306Some of the comparisons are dumb from whoever made that chart, but a lot of them do showcase a flaw in trying to make an entirely new generation like that. You have to make a lot of species that mostly just fill the roles of things you already have.
They couldn't use Zubat, so they made Woobat. They couldn't use Geodude, so they made Boldore. They couldn't use Machop, so they made Timburr. Voltorb, Foongus. Tentacool, Jellicent, Frillish. Grimer, Trubbish. Not to mention the things that they could probably do without but copied anyway like Sawk, Throh, and Bouffalant
It really gives off the impression that at a certain point, they were just okaying designs because they were obligated to have a pokemon of that particular type and style in the region. Like they could only ever think to put Zubat and Geodude in any cave, so were lost without making a substitute for them.
You can argue about quality or old designs versus new designs all you like, but it already puts the new pokemon in a rough starting point when a lot of them do look like blatant replacements.
