I must say i saw mega evos just as a simple gimmick but after reading pokedex entries of some mega evos i see them compeltely different now.

To me they are like the visualization of Pokemon's dream.
1) Ampharos gets an awesome hair - hair that he lost during 3rd evo form
2) Houndoom suffers and melts. It's like he literally going through hellish torture. He's a demon dog after all so that's quite fitting.
3) While Pinsir becomes more evil and destructive, he also feels HAPPY to be able to fly - so much that he never touches the ground again.
4) Mega Absol keeps his depressive feeling of not wishing to be seen as an "evil" being. He's not enjoying his mega evolution at all.


I fucking love stuff like that. It seems like pokemon either getting their dreams come true after mega evolutions. Or going through some cursed punishements for their acts.
Like if you are an angry Tyranitar that want to destroy things - you Megaevolve and get stronger BUT here is a twist - your entire back will be half broken!
