Pokemon has been on a downward spiral starting with 4th gen. 5th gen started the trend of wasting your time with garbage annoying cutscenes, which has only gotten worse with each new game.

i agreed with everything else you said up until this, just for the fact that the way they got rid of HM's was fucking retarded. the gen 5 use of HM's (in which they're almost entirely optional just to get tm's, items and secret areas of the map) was the best. Though theres something to admire in gen 4 in how rough and difficult hm's made the region feel (given how mountainous and rural it was) mt coronet wouldnt have been what it was without the maze of rock climbs.

Emboar, Pansage, Zebstrika, Gigalith, Stoutland, and Cofagrigus. Haxorus turned into an official 7th member and by the time gen 5 was over I had at least three level 100 Haxorus individually. But I got rid of Pansage as soon as Zekrom showed up.

While gen 5 started a lot of the trends that are now annoying (like no gym leaders or elite 4 members having a full team) it still knew how to balance out everything into a satisfying experience. Later games seem more concerned only into making things easy.

atleast they had extra difficulties, but there was no reason why gen 6 and 7 didnt have extra difficulties to chose from at the start (maybe a proper nuzlocke system too, where you can disable use of in-battle items for the player if you wish)

Though for the final fight I used the first two with the Swords of Justice and Zekrom just because it fel right to have the heroes of wild pokemon join in along with the dragon of ideals.

Kanto references are a trait that GF would never let go, as it's all heavily sprinkled in every generation, not just Kalos btw.

How are they relevant? They're no more Kanto pandering than Steven being the previous owner of the villa in Platinum is Hoenn pandering. Throwawy references to other games was the norm before XY.
