Because you're telling the company in question that you've already decided to make a purchase no matter what is or isn't in the game. That with nothing but a title and a trailer, they've earned your money as long as they release a thing with the same name. And once preorders go over a certain threshold, they have no reason to worry about the game making a good impression on launch. They've already sold enough copies, post-launch reviews and consumer impressions are an afterthought.
