They clearly stopped giving a fuck about mythicals long ago. There haven't been any really good ones since Gen 5 in terms of concept or method for obtaining.

I'd have to disagree on the method of obtaining part. Gen 5 was the one that started this awful trend of just handing them out over WiFi like candy with no effort going into catching them. However I will give points to the lore locked behind those events in terms of getting Secret Sword and Relic Song. I'd say Gen 4 had the last truly special mythical were in Gen 4 because you actually had to fight and capture them and they introduced new locations to your game.
