So many abilities would fit for it, even keeping Sneasel's abilities would have been fine. Its still a good pokemon despite it, but it bothers me flavor wise.

Pressure always feels like the laziest thing to give to a pokemon. It's only ever remotely good on things that are bulky enough to take a few hits to really cause a big drain anyway

The Ability has to make sense for the Pokemon in question. Magic Guard is given mostly to Psychic-type Pokemon because magic is associated with psychic. Regenerator is for Pokemon that can grow back body parts and limbs. And Poison Heal is for those Pokemon based on species that benefit from material that would be toxic to us.

Pressure is slapped on and completely useless on it. Weavile are ambush predators that use teamwork to take down prey with a quick, coordinated attack. Pressure does not fit.

Competitive isn't a bad ability. Look at Defiant, which benefits less from the useful stat dropping stuff in the meta like Intimidate or Sticky Webs

Damp is bullshit, yes, but Swift Swim on something with Mega Swampert's bulk, power, and typing is great. Of the Hoenn starters, Swampert gains the most by Mega Evolving. If you really want healing, lobby someone to give it a Water-type version of Drain Punch or Leech Life with an name like Osmosis or something.

Mega Sceptile really wishes it got something like Regenerator. Or that its Attack and Special Attack got switched. Or (heaven forbid) Contrary. Lightning Rod is pretty fucking terrible for something that already took 1/4 damage from Electric moves.

Analytic is good though. It works even if the opponent swaps out. While not the most ideal use of it this does open up some fun opportunities if you are great at prediction.

Lightningrod prevents T-Wave crippling(Rotom Wash was super common at the time of ORAS debut and this felt like one of the first straight up counters) and lets it get a free switch tho, as well as get a stat boost from it, which is more useful than similar abilities like Storm Drain on pokemon like Gastrodon and Cradily that are supposed to be defensive. Just having Sceptile mega'd keeps people from mindlessly clicking Volt Switch unless it's the rare pokemon that learns it and resists Sceptile like Forretress. While most electric types run HP Ice, they also likely can't take a +1 Leaf Storm, Dragon Pulse, or Energy Ball.

Also keep in mind that weather was considerably less common now that the weather abilities were nerfed. Swift Swim placing M-Swampert in OU is solely because of Pelipper and Swampert absorbing electric moves. Mega Swampert was UU like M-Sceptile last gen, so the gap between the two is not as big as you claim it is. IF GameFreak didn't happen to give Drizzle to a pokemon quad weak to electric, Swampert would still be in UU. Look no further than the much less impactful Sand Stream on Gigalith(for teammates, not Gigalith itself).

My boy got shafted hard. I love the design, is probably my favourite Fossil Pokemon, but just totally useless in any form of serious play.

If it had to keep a negative ability for some weird reason I think that Emergency Exit fits the idea that Defeatist also encapsulates, but at least with Emergency Exit Archeops can come back for revenge later.
