Given how none of this shit could get made without specifically hiring someone to manage the creative direction of the media in question, that's how important a director is to the games.

Proabably the single most important person. The producer is just there to hold the directors collar and make sure the budget is being adhered to, dates are being met, and the director is getting the support and staff he needs.

I would absolutely love for Morimoto to direct the Gen 8 games. I very much doubt it but it would be beautiful. I'd even take him doing a third version of them if it were to ever be made.
