Subjective flaws: These are things that some people either don’t mind or enjoy, all the more power to them.

No old Pokémon

No evolutions of existing Pokémon

Very limited amounts of water types to choose from

Very linear region
Huge amounts of cutscenes and handholding

Very low Pokémon variety during the main game, seriously B/W has the smallest pokedex since gen 1 but several are exclusive to each version, are legendary or are unobtainable until the very end of the game / don’t evolve in a reasonable amount of time.

Very small amount of side areas/ optional dungeons

Too many legendary Pokémon in regional pokedex for the total amount of Pokémon.
Routes are often straight lines with nothing more to them

Many original Pokémon feel unnecessary as they're simular/ heavily inspired by older Pokémon

Large number of rivals constantly interrupting the adventure

Game constantly throws rival and enemy team encounters at you throughout the game
causing them game to feel very slow and full of roadblocks

Team plasma's final motives fall flat and leave a feeling of missed potential

Dousing machine is a massive pain in the ass due to you having to turn it on and off constantly

Bottom screen lacks usefulness of previous games

Super Subjective: take a guess

These games are fucking ugly as shit

In battle animations are janky and look unnatural often missing keyframes

Overworld trainer sprites look off putting and out of place because of how incredibly disproportioned they are

3D models used in the overworld somehow look worse than games 4 years older than them despite being on the same engine

The entire scale of the world is off. Buildings lose their charm from previous games and look massive and bloated.

Walking in a straight line for 5 minutes to cross bridges

Insane levels of power creep

Story is laughably stupid even before it goes to shit towards the ending

The silent self insert main character is forced into an ideology

A fucking castle, built underneath the Pokémon league, which is the secret base for team plasma, rises from the fucking ground HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Elite for difficultly is ruined due to you being able to challenge them in any order. Ruining the feeling of raising stakes as well as build-up for the champion fight

Post game difficultly jump is incredibly retarded
Region lacks any sense of cohesion and style causing it to feel bland and uninteresting

All three of the starters suck unholy amounts of dick, Snivy is the worst one though

The people who are retarded enough to think this is the best game in the series are more annoying than "genwunners". Seriously shut the fuck up.

These games are rendered completely obsolete by their sequels B/W 2 so there is no reason to play them.

Yeah no, i never thought about this before. And while it has never bothered me for that reason, god damn is that bad writing. Whether or not you care about the quality of the story, this would be a huge problem in a story heavy game.

You face mostly NFE's and shitmons and due to their high levels, you can catch up real quickly. Literally a non argument. Also they give you the fishing rod so you can capture high level water Pokemon or go in the dark grass in the postgame routes if you feel like taking the bitch way out.

Black and White are the games I would recommend to anyone who hadn't played gen 5 or has stopped playing pokemon and is trying to get back into the games. Hell I'd go as far as to recommend them to anyone who never played pokemon before and is willing to play one of the DS games.

Not an objective flaw as you also stated that Unova has a limited amount of water types in the first place. What the fuck else would you catch beside a Basculin, Frillish and Alomomola? You pretty much contradicted yourself, and you don't even mention how there are only 3 poison type lines in the Unova dex while water has triple the amount.

I still remember catching a level 38 Rufflet right before the elite four and just quitting the game there because of it. I was already bored out of my mind unlike any pokemon game I had played before. Even gen 4 with slow dialogue, hp bar taking five minutes to hit zero, and SAVING A LOT OF DATA didn't suck this bad.

Every first version of a generation starts out with a Battle Tower or a variant of one. DP and RS also had Battle Tower.

Contests were getting too fucking stale at this point. Furthermore, Unova was so far away from Hoenn and Sinnoh that it made little sense to have contests there.

Good. Safari Zone was fucking stupid anyway. It hid rare Pokemon behind a shitty RNG area.

That sucks, but we had Dream World for that feature. Can't sell DW to the kiddies if it has a feature you can get in BW.

There's nothing wrong with the EXP system. It made training multiple Pokemon a lot more feasible, and it allowed your weak Pokemon to catch up very quickly.

Yeah, that sucks.

>Unable to fish until postgame
Unova didn't have too many fish Pokemon so fishing was fucking worthless. Besides, the water Pokemon you could fish for in the post-game were significantly higher-leveled, and many of them are pretty fucking rare mons.

Stupidly high level requirements were meant to be used with the "broken EXP system." It's not that hard to get a Pokemon to Level 50+ in this game. And Deino is already at Level 40, so you only need to raise it a bit more to get to Level 50+. Many of the Pokemon that evolve at later levels are available in the post-game anyway, so it doesn't matter too much.

Yeah, that sucks. But they're called Hidden Abilities for a reason. They're not meant to be easy to get.

There's nine you absolute dildo. Just as many fighting type lines, one less than grass, one more than normal (with excluding Meloetta) and tied with flying (excluding Landorus because he can only be obtained in the post game). Unova only has really 3 and a half aquatic based water types and that half is due to the Tympole line. congratulations, you can now catch Tympole's in the water routes i guess.

That depends on your view point. You might either think that hidden abilities are content that's purposefully and unjustly being locked away from you or you might see it as a cool special bonus that you have to earn by participating in these events.

Most level requirements are lined up with the end game which means you should have a fully evolved team by the time you face the elite four. I personally think it's a nice change of pace to actually have your time evolve through out your journey and then finally be able to unleash their full power as I make my way to become the champ as opposed to have my complete team by the fourth gym. Seems to me you're just impatient.

That's a good thing. Other gens had ridiculous numbers of Water-types and not much else. Having the opposite be true (few Water-types, plenty more of other types) was a welcome change.

Wellspring Cave. Dreamyard. The exterior and water portions of Pinwheel Forest. Desert Resort. Relic Castle. Lostlorn Forest. Mistralton Cave. Moor of Icirrus. Challenger's Cave. Giant Chasm. Undella Bay/Abyssal Ruins. Abundant Shrine. P2 Laboratory.

It's easier to design Pokemon from an existing base than to start completely fresh. And many of the clones have unique differences from the originals. For example, Roggenrola doesn't have Ground-type and it is also slightly frailer than Geodude.

Understandable, but most of the time the rivals just want to battle you with their Pokemon. It's good training and you have to deal with pesky NPC opponents anyway.

It makes sense. Power corrupts. Many organizations claim to have noble intentions but their leaders have sinister motives. Even if Ghetsis was ultimately hypocritical, it didn't change N's core message. He wanted to save Pokemon from the evils of people. His actions have made many trainers reconsider their relationship with Pokemon.

Understandable, but bottom screen is the hub to access the multiplayer features such as trading, GTS, and Dream World. So stuff had to be cut out.

It's pretty ironic considering that Gen 5 has the best dousing machine to this date. Gen 1-3 were dreadful, gen 4 was okay but still required you to sit still for most of the time, HGSS was better but it required you to hold down the touch screen, and then Gen 6's was good-ish but not as good as Gen 5's and then Gen 7 went back to being awful. I'm wonder what OP even wants?

How are musicals better than contests? They're literally just super contests without the dance and acting competition (aka the part that actually requires you to do something skillfull).
Taking part in a Musical doesn't even reward you with anything. It's far worse than contests, simply because it has nothing unique to it and is just a rehash of contests but with no actual content or worth.

It was a refreshing experience to only have new creatures.

Also areas you have preiously visited like the Dreamyard and Relic castle have new optional areas.
That's a reasonable amount of side activities in my opinion.

Gen 5 may have started "silly roadblocks" but at least Gen 5 will let you explore some areas before telling you to go back and slap the gym leader. There are over 100 "general" items in the game. Utility items like Exp Share, Repels and Amulet Coin. Evolutionary items like stones, Reaper Cloth and Razor Claw. Boosting items like Charcoal, Miracle Seed and all 16 plates. Then there are incenses, mulches and competitive items.
Sorting feature was extremely noticeable to me and it made my experience with Diamond and Platinum worse. If you think it wasn't needed then you are either delusional or didn't use inventory too often.

Firstly, Burnt Tower and National Park are not optional. If you think they are then read more about them.

That's thirteen optional and eleven mandatory for a total of twenty-four. So I was actually wrong - Johto does have one more mandatory dungeon in HGSS only. Unfortunately for Johto, Unova also has six more total dungeons than Johto in HGSS, or seven more than in GSC, and it also happens to be have between six and seven more optional dungeons (which you say are more important??).
Unova's dungeons are also nearly all bigger, and I'm going to be subjective here and add that they also have more interesting maps and side paths. Johto has absolutely nothing on Unova.

What choice? You still have to go through both paths, the only difference is that you get to choose which one you go through first. Absolutely not. Johto very obviously suffers for trying to shoehorn nonlinearity and failing to balance around it. Unova is well-balanced the entire way through and its gameplay doesn't NEED to rely on "but you can play in a different order than last time" to stay interesting. Nonlinearity isn't inherently a good thing, and Johto is the absolute best example of doing it wrong in every way imaginable - it has absolutely no place in an argument AGAINST linearity.

So, I presented examples of other regions that are also open ended and offer compelling gameplay which Unova fails to deliver. I said I suspected that part of the reason for the level curve was them trying to get two regions within the levels of a single region.

You seem to think that by attacking Johto you can somehow make Unova seem like a good region. Unfortunately this fails when you realise that not only are you attacking game design from 1999 to defend your shitty region but even with me accepting its flaws Unova still fails to surpass it.

Also I just checked, before HGSS Johto only had 8 caves while Unova has 12 (13 if you count the old Victory Road from the first BW). Just for reference Hoenn has the most caves, then Sinnoh and Unova are tied for second place.
