Would you prefer the gen 8 protagonists to be in the 15/16 age range of gen 5/gen 6 protagonists or them being 10 year old kids like gen 7 protagonists?

Zelda already did the jump with almost all Link and Zelda being mid/late teens now, I don't get why Pokemon can't do the jump and make the self insert still be 10 year olds

The game is marketed and if the major demographic IS older people then that doesn't matter since "marketed towards" =/= "major demographic towards little kids around the age of 10, then I would prefer 10 year olds

Why do people really care when it is practically impossible to tell their age based on designs alone? The boys all look same and the girls always fall in this vague "old enough to bleed but not yet legal" territory. Even XY wasn't that much of exception since they managed to de-age Serena without changing her design just fine.

There is no reason to settle for anything else since it basically covers all the grounds with both kid and adult target audiences.

Actually this is a great idea, kind of like how the recent Fire Emblem game lets you do that. We can already change skin tone, this’d be another nice addition.

I’d prefer they go with the BW/BW2/XY ages. By this point a lot of us headcanon then as teenagers, as well as even the animation studios the Pokémon company hires (pic related, that is not an eleven year old).

I like the look of them, they have the same kinda look as the BW protagonists, just with crazier outfits. And personally I think the Princess Leia donuts on rosa’s hair make her more endearing as a design.

Definitely prefer older protags. Or even better, just don't give them a canon age, and make them a bit taller than in SM so people can just use their own headcanon.

I mean that age shit never even mattered in the context of game interactions either. The joke about 11 year old kids traveling on their own has gotten so fucking old it became not funny and then funny and then not funny again.

I feel like these threads and people asking for older teens characters are just a stealthy attempts to justify jerking off to them.

I don’t think that’s just the case. For example, an older character can, as shallow as it seems, make the plot feel more heavy or mature. Black and white and it’s sequels just felt a lot more serious since our protagonists were just as old as the antagonist and could interact with him on a more personal and empathetic level (I’m referring to N here). It just feels like fighting “big bad grownups” otherwise.

I'm just sick of weird designs of player characters like kris's and lyra's gravity defying pigtails or nate's weird jewfro(?) or leaf's purple hair. I'm glad they're went to more non-weirdo styles in gen 7. I hope they continue this trend in the next gens.

I hope the franchise keeps the player characters as 10 year old kids... it keeps a part of the fantasy that you don't have to worry about teen or adult stuff in your adventure

I don't even feel like this needs a justification since there is really nothing pointing directly at their age beyond not having exaggerated feminine proportions. Every society ever before the modern western one has treated menstruation as the age of consent and that's for a reason. To be fair, I don't recall XY ever stating Emma was necessarily younger than the XY protags though. For all that's possible, Emma may as well be older than the XY protags but looks very young due to malnourishment.
