Every single move in the game is available to you, so you can just slap on the best moves for the pokemon and go on ahead. It isn't like the original GSC since there's a special/physical split, fairy types exist and some moves, like leech life, are buffed.
Note that your biggest pain in the ass will be the fact that evs are expensive as hell prior to A rank so you'll mostly have to rely on what hits hard and strategize, especially since the enemies likely have max evs. I would spend money on getting pokemon instead. It'll be easier when you get to the upper ranks, since you'll get more money.
Currently I'm at S rank and plowing through with Snorlax, Lapras and Dragonite. I lucked out and got them when I just reached A rank and Snorlax is still king, pretty much.
