Why is Mega Latios considered viable this gen when it wasn't last gen?

Last gen base Latios was considered more viable than Mega Latios but now it's the other way around.

Not the reason since Soul Dew was still banned from OU in Gen 6.
The real reason has to do with the meta shifts. Psychic is a more valuable offensive typing thanks to Lele. It has good mixed offensive stats so would be counters like Heatran and Tyranitar become iffy checks. Choice sets for Latios are falling out of favor due to the introduction of mons such as Koko/Lele, and Celesteela, making it easy to revenge kill so the versatility of the mega stone is sought out more.
