I think it's pretty cool to tie Pokemon together like this. This looks like the skin of an old Arcanine sabertooth predecessor. Could be used as a fossil pokemon maybe.

If it was fast, that would be a different story, but they sure do hate making Ice types that capitalize on the advantages of Ice types, don't they

Consider that sneasel was pure dark type, and warwolf pure ice. They probably just combined the two into one, making a fast ice type, so if Warwolf was in the game it'd probably be some sort of fast attacker.

I was thinking the same thing however I don't think it's a bad thing. With Sun and Moon introducing far darker Pokedex entries it would make sense to integrate that darker tone into the designs as it not only works well from a design perspective but it reflects on fact that like real world animals Pokemon make up a vast ecosystem in which natural processes like death and eating each other occur.
