I'm really curious why they changed Girafarig so much in the final game, from its second head down to its typing.

I feel like the twin ghost thing was a stand-in for a pre-evolution, not the intended final version. Speaking of which, I wonder what a proper Girafarig pre-evo would look like.

Maybe it wasn't really anything about being creepy, a lot of pokemon are creepy.
Game Freak has talked in interviews about the design process of pokemon and how important it's to them to create a design that makes sense and looks balanced from all sides. Girafarig beta can't walk.

I think this is actually what happened
they started with balancing the legs, but that made having the heads equal sides look off so they ended up with the current design.

They probably considered it uncreative being that both sides are just palette swaps with two or three minor changes between them. Guess they didn't reconsider this when creating Lycanroc years later.

But they were deliberate designed to be a shout-out to the pushmi-pullyu from Doctor Dolittle. It’s especially apparent since one side has two horns and the other only has one. The resemblance to the thing it’s referencing is much harder to see in the final design.

Which is why they probably changed it. They didn't want the design to be as similar as it was. That's just my guess, though.

Well the pushmi-pullyu was a goat on one end and a unicorn on the other, hence two horns on one side and one on the other. Girafarig was a giraffe on both ends.

I'm really amazed fanart just recently picked up girafarig, since we've known about (her) from very long ago.

I've been thinking for years that this is the greatest concept to sadly be scrapped, but I am happy nevertheless we finally get so much fanart of it.
