Anyways, how do you want the distribution for Gen 8 to be? And is the new Pokemon in Let's Go gonna be Gen 7 or 8?

It's coming before the starters. Data miners found that Pokemon Quest has a list of placeholders for Pokemon up to #808 so I think it would be safe to assume that's the one we're getting

I want the LG mons to be all of Gen 1 + any crossgen pr/evos. What I'm really hoping is that they change up the wild encounters. If we could get some baby mons available in the early routes I would love that.

It'll be the first Gen 8 Pokémon (assuming it's an actual new Pokémon and not some dumb shit like another Ultra Beast or new Forme) but that doesn't make LGPE the first Gen 8 games.

I disagree. The game put no thought into which pokemon appeared where. It's the equivalent of a randomizer. Same with ORAS but to a lesser extent there.

Yeah it would be interesting to see USUM's. I feel like USUM's dex was more balanced between the regions, and added a shitload of Gen 5 and 6 mons. It was also reflected in my nuzlocke runs of these games where I seemed to use a fair few Gen 5 mons in USUM. XY and SM had so much Kanto bloat. In SM it's not even close, Kanto and Alola have the most and the rest have barely anything.

The best distribution would be a reasonably close amount from each region plus new mons, but new mons are most focused on. XY did a really poor job of focusing on the new mons, and while a lot of Alola's were too rare, it felt like they had more focus than XY's.

I’ve never understood why GF thinks Ice is an endgame type.... given just how many weaknesses it has and how few strengths.
I wish they’d swap Ice and Rock in terms of Gym placement. It just fits better with a challenge.

Gen 3 in particular introduced about 130 new pokemon with its regional dex being 202. That's roughly 72 pokemon between gen 1 and 2, together that isn't even half.

For those that use the separate engine argument, you are technically right, but it's not an IMPROVED engine. It's the gen 6 engine. We went back a generation. We have no precedence for this, so it will have to be defined in the model. It can't interact with gen 7 in any way, so it can't be that either. The only conclusion I can make is that it's own entity that gets its own count. It is not a part of the gen structure at all.

Ice is endgame/midgame because of Dragon types having the same placement. If any dragon types show up before then, you won't have an Ice type to counter them.

If it is a new pokemon, that is what I see this as. Revealing a new pokemon without actually adding it to the dex. That is unless the datamine of Quest is to be believed and it is #808. This would imply it is a mythical, but I don't see the point in that since gen 7 can't interact with it. It HAS to be a gen 8 pokemon.

Something close to Alola's distribution, except with a little bit less Kanto in favor of the remaining gens, and preferably with more new mons.
Dreaming big now, i'd also like to see a few regional variants.

About the new LGPE mon, my guess is Gen 7, as USUM already broke the tradition by adding new mons mid-gen, and it's been basicaly confirmed that those games are still Gen 7.
But in the end, it doesn't really matter too much.

Oh, i didn't remember that. Then this could be the case of a Gen 8 mon showing up early.
About LGPE's placement, i believe most people do call it Gen 7 (even Serebii, for example), that's why my guess was Gen 7.

Anyway, we'll have a better idea after it is released. A mythical could be either 7 or 8, but if it ends up being a regular route mon then Gen 8 is the most likely.

The only things we know to be different are catching and overworld encounters. Catching is minor, so we can let that pass. Technically, triggering an encounter by interacting with an overworld entity has existed since the first gen. Having it happen regularly is a new thing, but it's a modification of existing mechanisms. It is at least being presented in a new way.

Technically, I would be asking the impossible, that these sort of things were not possible in previous games. If I were to believe fan hacks, they might've been, which would make all of our arguments moot.

I will at least concede the matter I gave it a generation label to start with. It can't be defined.

Oh no I read it wrong, I was talking about the Gen 7 Alola numbers but I was looking at Gen 6's 72. This image seems fine so I'm fine with just trusting your numbers and using this now.

Not that hard. Just look for the Pokedex pages on Bulbapedia, order them by national dex numbers, copy them to excel, highlight each generation and it tells you the numbers.

If anything the previous data cannot be trusted, it had the SM pokedex numbers wrong so who knows what else is wrong with it.

I would prefer Gen 8 to either introduce principally new mon, with like 80% dedicated to next-gen stuff. Barring that, introduce only a handful - maybe 10% new total - and update older pokemon instead. I mean more combining every game in a generation. RSE, FRLG, and the Gamecube games together, for instance, have 382 Pokemon available, and you can complete the national dex. DPPt and HGSS together can't complete the national dex.

I meant percentage of how many that is from the gen they're from, not just switch to percentages.

Like if a regionaldex has 120 gen1 mon in it, the percentage is "80% of gen1" even tho it only takes up like 30% of the pie chart of the regionaldex.

Even without Hoenn Pokémon, FRLG is such an overhaul/upgrade compared to Gen 1/2 that there's no way it could be considered part of their set. People would call it a reboot of the series, in a more direct way than RS sort of was.
LGPE doesn't set itself apart in the same way. Gameplay-wise it's a gross simplification of the main games, more comparable to GO's mechanics, and even visually it's not a big step up from Gen 7's games, looking more like an HD Gen 6.

But that was primarily because of the Poke Transporter. There's a ranger in BW who claims he's on the lookout for large numbers of Pokemon who escaped from the facility.

You need to transfer from previous generations to complete the Pokédex in Gen 2, 4, 5, and 7.
Only Gen 3 (between RSE and FRLG) and Gen 6 (between XY and ORAS) have every non-event Pokémon obtainable within the generation.

(Lugia and Ho-oh need to be transferred from Colosseum and XD in Gen 3, but they're treated as event Pokémon in that Gen, not required to "complete" the Pokédex)
