First of all, Bulbapedia isn't official and second LGP/LGE aren't core games, but main line games. Cores games are the ones from the main line that introduce a new generation (so RG, GS, RS, DP, BW, XY, SM and the 2019 game)

The core series are those which follow the core mechanics of the games started with Red/Green and improved upon with each iteration and Generation. LGEP are mainline, because they exist in the exact same regions that the core games took place in, but aren't core, when they go about recruiting pokémon differently to the core series, like some of the more recent spin-offs did.

The reality is that Game Freak doesn't consider ANY remake part of the main series.

But fans arbitrarily tag them onto the surrounding generation. Yes, they're "Gen 7 mainline games" because they're pre-Gen 8, will include Alola forms, and are literal remakes of Mainline games.

I don't get why this is so shocking, or bad, or confusing for people to understand.

The 2019 game will apparently have vastly better graphics, a lot of new Pokemon, and will continue with previous mechanics, so it will be it’s own generation. Let’s Go may also get its own installments later and probably go back to the same mechanics after the 2019 game, so it’s mainline in the sense that it will have installments and become adjacent to the core series
