like, how fucked up is it that everyone's "battlin' team rocket all together" with their common pokemon on the S.S. Anne but then Ash feels fucking LEFT OUT because he doesn't have butterfree anymore? are you seriously trying to tell me there aren't like 20 kids on board with a raticate, the evolved form of one of the most common beginner pokemon? i feel like it would have been a lot better if ash instead spent some time away from butterfree and bonded with raticate, so it would be a little more significant when ash eventually encounters the man again and trades for his butterfree back.
honestly, both the games and anime assign a really shitty stigma to Actual Trades.
