Last night, I had a dream.
In the dream, it was discovered that the Spaceworld 1997 demo was leaked by an internal colleague at GameFreak with the blessings of the higher-ups. They had seen the positive reactions to the beta Pokémon in the Satoshi Tajiri biography by older fans, and decided to leak it as a way to draw attention away from the backlash regarding the casualness of Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee. However, in the dream, they continued to leak betas and pre-release content each time more information about LGP LGE was released, to help deter the backlash, until eventually they ran out of content to feed to leakers, and began frantically making up "beta" Pokémon.
