An animal can't understand human speech. Pikachu, and trained pokemon seem to be able to do so. For example if a parrot repeats words, it doesn't actually understand what it repeats, it just copies sounds. A pokemon would, unless you come with your bs that anime isn't canon.

There are many kinds of intelligence, and none are more valid than the others. It is fine if you cannot understand this. Perhaps your intelligence lies elsewhere.

I bethe believes he was like House MD or something. I have dealt with people like him all my life and I just shrug it off.
Also animals might be trained to assimilate a sound and react accordingly, but we don't know if they can actually understand the meaning of a word. It is just conditioning in animals like dogs and cats.

The ability to communicate is not entirely intelligence either. Is anyone that can't understand you instantly stupid? They simply have different priorities. A dog is built for hunting, and they have advantages in that that we can't duplicate. They also can't be us and do many other things. They don't need to. Their one advantage is enough.

They can't because they are evolved with the brain size of a nut in comparison to ours.
Pokemon aren't like that.
Even if you say anime isn't canon, pokemon can still understand your commands just fine and receive and hold items perfectly.

Having powers is irrelevant. If pokemon did exist, they would outcompete actual animals, true, but that doesn't mean they aren't animals themselves. Mind you, I don't think all pokemon can be counted as animals either. Typhlosion certainly can be, which was the original point. Typhlosion possesses all the qualities an animal would possess.

The argument was against a superlative. That isn't the analogy you're making. If you're saying that there is no need to make the distinction with human, then that can only be said if you believe that to inherently mean being superior to animals, which I don't. Human is just a species to me. Animal and human are equal terms to me.
