I am playing emerald and platinum and completing the dex up to black and white and if there is nothing decent after USM, I am done.
I don't like almost any pokemon of gen VI and VII, if this is the new direction with incomplete games, lacking content and bad designs (which are the main reason I play, the pokemon themselves) then yeah. Adventure over.

Mechanics aside, there were some pretty good pokemon in Gen 6 and 7 so I'm afraid I can't agree with you even though BW2 was my favorite game.

VI has a lot of shit designs but it also has things like Hawlucha, Clawitzer, and Greninja. Aside from the Ultra Beasts, nearly all gen VII mon look good. About 5/6 of the Alolan forms are fun redesigns/retypings.

Well I personally don't like the designs myself. Maybe you like them because of their uses in game, but I am tired of giving games a pass when I don't like aesthetics and just concentrate on mechanics when I didn't have to do that in gens 1, 2 and 5.

For reference, since you seem like you want to divorce it to make your point, the Snorlax encounters in gen 1 happen around mid game, long after you've figured out the mechanics, built a solid team, and are exploring to get your badges. In XY, it happens very early on. It's between the first and second gym, if I remember correctly, so getting a lot of useful in-game items, learning battle mechanics and getting to visit a route with several new Pokemon in it isn't exactly a "glorified five minute cut scene".

I mean, you can do that, but that only makes you the bitter old man who was with it until they changed what it was, and now you don't get it anymore and you're not it anymore. But that's not a healthy thing to do, and it leads to idealizing an unreal image of what used to be.

The new games aren't bad. They're not perfect either. Much like the old games, they have their strong and weak points, because gamefreak learns and breaks at a roughly even rate. It's fine to prefer the older games, but it's dumb to idolize them.

Don't end up like the genwunners. That's just sad.
