It's alright for memesets and shit, but I would get bored of using one in-game, and I rarely choose it in competitive. The most fun I've ever had with it on showdown was a doubles team with transform mew; 100 HP really does wonders to shuckle's defenses.

What >>35871989 said, but I'd like to add on by saying that I think someone at Gamefreak feels the same way, because Shuckle always seems to have some kind of neat new gimmick to play around with. Whether or not it's actually useful it gets a lot more love than fucking Lumineon, that's for sure.

Also, I wish that more Pokemon had passive sub-abilities, like when Shuckle could turn berries into juice in gen II. It would go a long way into making them feel like actual companions in the world.

What shuckle actually is is up to debate, in all honesty it seems to take inspiration from so many things it can basically be seen as original.

However the one bug it seems to tale most after is the scale insects. Scale insects are small bugs that are mostly immobile, form a hard shell to defend themselves, and creat a sort of sweet "juice" to attract other insects.

There aught to be healing moves that heal 1/4 or 1/3 of the user's HP, but makes up for it with a stat increase or something. It could probably be just a dump stat like speed, so that Shuckle has an instant recovery but just not as strong.

It wasn't an ability, it was like an invisible trait. The closest things we've had to invisible traits since then that I can think of are Shedinja's locked HP (although I believe it has since been found to be a universal property of base HP equaling 1 and not something specifically coded into Shedinja) and Diglett/Dugtrio/Sandygast/Pallosand/Mega Gengar being immune to Telekinesis.
