I thought a lot of mons from gen 2 were from gen 3 simply because my silver cartidge couldn't save so I would beat a few gyms then lose battery and not bother.

I just emulated the game and learned everything different.

It's because Gen 2 hid its new pokemon in shitty ways. Skarm is rare on an optional route and I'm not sure if any characters use one. And Slugma is mid fucking kanto.

I think the reason this one never happened to me was marketing, i remember seeing chimeco around a lot during gen 3

personally I catch myself thinking gen 5 mons are gen 4 due to skipping gen 5 til after gen 6, and i end up thinking gen 6 mons are gen 5 just because gen 6 was so forgettable
