Let's settle this /vp/. Would your rather become a Pokemon trainer in the Pokemon world or a Pokemon in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon world? This is assuming you can be in any region you want and travel all you want in the the trainer route and you can be any Pokemon you want in the Mystery Dungeon route. Tell me which one you went with and why.

being a trainer is cool, but you kinda have to accept that you would be mediocre at best, as you wouldn’t have the money for eugenically perfect pokemon. You’d essentially be a guy trying to enter dog shows with a fucking mutt caught in the streets.

i imagine a lot if trainers end up loke the team skull guys halfway through their journey. homeless, afraid to go back home as a failure, skill too low to train anything other than shitmons, wishing you could catch your favorite mon while owning said shitmons and probably sticking around the least failurely trainer you know as a self preservation mechanism.

fuck, this is probably the fate of every fucker who chose charmander in kanto.

Zero reading comprehension. Half the post is literally an example from the games, the other half is a note that you aren’t the protagonist.

The protagonist can train and evolve anything, because he’s the protagonist. NPCs are often seen with first stage mons past their evo level, some complain about their pokemon being disobedient and most stick to a grouping of similar pokemon.

You seen to have ignored the world presented in the game and have focused on the events directly around your character. Tunnel vision of sorts.

I don’t know why you think you’d be anything other than a random hiker, lass, skull grunt or super nerd. If you don’t have the grit, skill and resources to be super successful in real life, you probably wouldn’t be super successful in the pokemon world.

You work your way out as you go
Just because the NPCs are retarded (And you would know this if you actually paid attention tho their dialogue, like bug catchers saying they fight with recently caught fresh pokemon or Beauties admitting they only use cute ones because they have no idea how pokemon actually works) dosn't mean everybody would be a loser and pathetic fuck.

Your knowledge comes from the metasphere surrounding the franchise. if plopped into the pokemon world, you’d either: Have been raised in universe, and thus have the exact same mentality as those NPCs; or be plopped from the real world, where knowledge of a videogame would be ill suited to understand real matters such as whatever the fuck are IVs in universe and bullshit hax stuff you can pull out of your ass when not restricted to videogame mechanics.

You’re getting lost in a fantasy, which is fine, but you have to understand that the realistic situation would just be you as a mediocre trainer. Most likely settling down into a mundane job in-universe such as an office worker or security guard. You could still get your kicks out of challenging children for their lunch money while using your weakest pokemon and pretending you only have one, tho.

Oak just gives you your starter and nothing else though. Literally hack yourself a rattata or pidgey level 5 and you will still be able to climb to the top. Try it out.

So, you wouldn’t be an adventurer extraordinaire and just end up being an adult with a job that enjoys pokemon as a hobby. If you want to think about real life terms: most everyone who gets hardcore into sports never makes it to the big leagues. Most engineers never design the next sidney stadium and most people who play videogames never go full MLG PRO 4LLIFE. All of this people could buy the equipment for their trade and could even see some degree of success in their life. It’s not that life is unfair, it’s just what happens.

This reality is reflected in the games, out of dozens of NPCs, only a fraction battles and only a handful are worth a damn as a trainer.

If you chase your dream and fail that's one thing, but some people just lack the dedication to earn their goals or talent. That's the same here, so I don't understand the point you are trying to make. Yes there will always be someone better than you, but that happens in this life and would probably happen in any universe be it fictitious or not, so fair is fair.

I am still not so fucking pesimist and think that even if you don't make it to the top, you can still make a living. And hey there are shitton of berries that can be eaten and centers let you stay for free, so it really doesn't seem that bad to be comfortable mediocre.
