>>35892095I honestly think these games have a chance of not selling that well.
Their target audience for this game is the kind of person who doesn't normally play or enjoy videogames. A lot of people play Go, sure, but Go is free and available on a device that everybody and their grandma owns. Now they want those same people to shell out $350-$400 for these games and a Switch, which is a pretty huge investment.
Then there's the fact that the games have been casualised like never before to appeal to that audience, which actually seems to be putting off a part of their current audience that would've eaten these games up otherwise. Obviously there will be a lot of drones who'll buy them no matter what, but they're still probably going to see a larger group of people skipping these games than usual.
Between these two points it actually seems like a pretty big gamble, they could either end up being the best selling games in the series if they actually succeed in roping in their new target audience, or one of the worst selling games if they fail to do that after alienating the established fanbase.
TL;DR they're trying to sell these games to people who don't normally buy games, which could easily end up biting them in the ass.
