Maybe if this really was a one-off I could ignore it, but this is just continuing how handholdy Pokémon has been since the 3DS era. Maybe they'll surprise us with gen 8, but I seriously doubt it at this point.

Do you understand how stupid that sounds? How do you basically know something? You either know it or you don't. Much less "basically" knowing it for a fact. You not buying it isn't gonna change the fact that it well sell millions, and then when Gen 8 comes out that will also sell as much if not more. Those people who are buying a Switch to play these will likely buy Gen 8 because they already invested the $300 on the system. If it changes the core games, then time will still continue to move on and Pokemon will continue to sell just as well as it always has.

SM is the best it's gonna get for people like you. I like gen 5 too but for some reason I don't feel like you'd enjoy them? Maybe it's the fact that gen 7 is easier to get into and you've skipped a lot of in-between-gen advancements. It's a great casual game for people who didn't want a casual game. Lots of innovative stuff for single-player and the story is very good for pokemon. People will try to tell you USUM is better but it's not.
Honestly I feel like I'm okay with these games because I can always just convince myself that it's another spin off. They already feel different enough desu.
