They are right this time. The next CORE game is in 2019, so no new generation has been released/shown, PikaVee is just another main line game like USUM, ORAS, etc.

USUM did the same, some pokemon weren't in the previous one, SM, but no new core game means no new generation with new dex, new region, new professor, new starters, etc
