I haven't seen a single official source that has stated the two games are part of the main series. In fact, I've seen more sources that imply the opposite. Elaborate.

Ishihara has said that it's the newest entry in the Pocket Monsters series. Only mainline games are titled Pocket Monsters in Japan, all spin-offs are simply called Pokemon.

Pokémon's niche, albeit large, is too set-in-stone for me to see any exportation to whatever you consider the "normalfags" of the gaming market. The only group of people I can see a Pokémon title sell to is the group of people who are already invested in Nintendo products. Furthermore, Go was a fad that died when winter came around in 2016, many Genwunners will likely hate it, and I have a lot of faith in children to not buy this, as they'll likely be swayed by the many people who are calling GameFreak out on their shitty job.

Well, I guess I'll go fuck myself when it comes to that arguement. I still don't think GameFreak will take many influences from this game, though, since I doubt it'll sell well compared to the behemoth titles that their previous games were.

Traditional Pokemon games as we know them are dead/dying. People need to realize Pokemon GO made more money in 1 year than traditional main series Pokemon games have made in 10 years. If LGPE manages to get even a fraction of GO players then that will be the new standard for all Pokemon games. The execs calling the shots will go for what makes more money and force GO shit into every game.
