>>35898337PU being the largest tier has nothing to do with power creep. The bottom tier has always been the biggest in Pokemon because there's always been loads of shitmons.
>>35899903Sure, but in the context of Pokemon it'd be extremely difficult to balance the roughly 1000 Pokemon + alternate forms available for 6v6 single battles in a way that doesn't end with a number of successive tiers of ~50 Pokemon each and a bottom tier containing hundreds of trashmons that are mostly either slightly worse versions of things in higher tiers or just plain garbage builds that were never meant to be competitive in the first place, like the long-suffering Ledian or the SLOW FRAIL MIXED ATTACKER archetype that was so common in Gen III. Remember, a large number of Pokemon exist solely to help the player make progress in the games themselves, not to be viable in PvP.
I kind of wonder how tiering shakes out in Dragon Quest Monsters, come to think of it. That series uses a monster building system that should produce a more balanced competitive environment, but isn't nearly as popular as Pokemon and never will be.
