I just don't get it. There's fun to be had in learning shit on your own. I got through Pewter Gym just fine with Charmander, Pidgey, Caterpie, and Pikachu. I remember getting pissed when Mega Punch didn't work against Gastly in the tower in Lavender. Jasmine and Whitney pushed my shit in multiple times until I got through with crits, misses and luck. Gary bodied me in the St. Anne until I leveled up Charmander into Charmeleon and raped his team. Kids today are dumb as fuck and have short attention spans.

The guy always told you what the Gym leader's pokemon were weak to. If the person playing can't read, then this is even worse, since then they won't even be able to brute-force their way in if they can't figure out what a grass type is.

Not only that, but they specifically had to add in Grass and Water types prior to pewter for this to work, since you don't get the starters normally in these games. On top of that, it doesn't even allow for fighting types to count for it, despite that also being a weakness you could probably attain by that point.

If the game just wants to check that the player has a super-effective move on their team, that'd be one thing, but this is a whole new level of roadblocking you until you handhold yourself.

This. Somehow games got the idea that they had to dumb things down for kids or else they'd lose interest. The fact that Minecraft got as big as it did without any sort of in-game tutorials kind of goes against that. Even Fortnite being the next big thing is an oddity when you consider that for most kids its probably constant failures of dying in the first few minutes in pursuit of a larger goal.

Maybe the reason those got so successful was precisely because they weren't the same shovelware that people assumed kids would like?

Right after this in the the treehouse footage, the trainer is fighting one of the gym trainers with pikachu. yes, the sub trainer was using bulbasaur, but it shows you arent forced to use grass or water, just show that you know type matchups

The new games literally tell you how effective moves are once you've fought a pokemon once (as if you 'found out their type' from the battle).
Even if a child didn't figure out the type idea, they'd probably be using pokemon that were effective against the area's/gym's type by that point

The thing I hate about this game is how it basically forces you to catch a shitload of Pokemon just to level up. I don't want to catch 20 pidgeys and caterpies only to have them rot in my box. I want to catch Pokemon I'm actually interested in and ONLY them.

Dosen't Professer Oak teach you about type-matchups during your first fight with Blue? Even then, types matchups are things that are "soft learned" (Made that up myself) Throughout the game.

During battle you're gonna lean that some move have greater or lesser effect on certain pokemon, so why the fuck did they put in this unnecessary pit-stop when the game actively teaches you about what what this dude teaches, but better and dosen't slow the pacing?

I'm honestly losing hope for gen 8 rn.

Do you guys literally just use six pokemon all game? Don't you complete your regional dex or at the very least catch every new pokemon you see? 99% of the players are gonna have an Oddish/Bellsprout at this point, simply out of sheer impulse for getting a pokemon they haven't gotten yet, when they see one popping up in the forest. You can access your pokemon box anywhere you want, too. This is seriously a non-issue.
