/vp/ complains about everything so I am sure people have said that at some point but I never actually saw anyone complain about BW music.
I am pretty biased for Pokemon music in general but Unova games have some in the best in the series. Nuvema Town, N's Final Battle theme and especially Relic Song among others being great. I wish another game in the series would have the gym theme variation like what BW2 does.

XY's ost was really lifeless. There was no magic or that trademark pokemon "spark". Perhaps they were too overwhelmed by not being constricted to midi format and then sperged on using cool HD instruments instead of the actual compositions. or maybe it was because Go Ichinose wasn't present in XY

I feel this, and the gym leader them is due to Masudas developing obsession with lifeless electronic music He's a decent composer (terrible arranger mind you) but his taste in music over the years has become quite apparent, as well as loosing is touch in general. The games where he's less present always have a better soundtrack nowadays in my opinion.

Low HP and gym leader's last Pokemon remix of the main theme is what I remember most -- and they aren't fond memories. I know there's good stuff mixed in, but damn if those didn't leave a really bad taste in my mouth.

I actually liked the gym leader theme, although it was short and repetitive. There was also that fall route that had music that you could tell could have sounded great but they stopped composing the good part and just smashed a bunch of other bits and pieces of melodies into it and called it a full song.
