This is the most flawed defence of this game, and here's why: imagine if a player who has picked up LGP/E decides to go back and play USUM. How fucked would they be with not only the increased difficulty but also the random battles?

Considering all you need to challenge Brock's gym is a Water/Grass pokemon (and I'm assuming you need type effective pokemon for every gym), you'd only need to catch one pokemon and beat Brock's gym. Everything else does not matter.
