How would you nerf Stealth Rocks?

How to effectively nerf stealth rocks while keeping them viable competitively:

>Two turns of set up for maximum damage (current damage as is). If only done once, it does 1/4 of the damage it does now.

This would force people to think beyond having to just click SR and kill any rapid spinners. This would also make having rapid spinners a lot less necessary, and any pokemon who 4x resist stealth rocks will have a new edge to their viability, being able to 'remove' the rocks by switching in without taking too much damage.

I think the biggest "issue" with Stealth Rocks is the fact that it's an entry hazard that obeys type matchups, and any Pokemon weak to Rock is just now automatically at a disadvantage, which kinda stinks

Maybe have it hurt you in ways OTHER than type? I'd take just about any other option, really...

I wouldn't. They're a necessary evil, and these days you have more than enough counterplay. Having turn limits or hit limits benefits stall playstyles, which already runs double Defog or otherwise attempts to burn Stealth Rock PP. Most would agree that stall is less fun than simply having sneaky pebbles.

If anything, I'd do this >>35902775. Even then, you have to understand that being able to use Stealth Rock to control certain threats is important in a game where you have 6 slots to cover an increasingly wide pool of threats. With rocks there's always the option to outplay your opponent and force the big threat to eat residual damage, rather than needing some passive garbage to hardwall it.

Not a lot of modern Pokemon can use Stealth Rock. The problem is smogon sets are anything goes from any gen, so you get the MTG problem of "this card from 15 years ago combos with this new card to be broken OP". Smogon should adopt the VGC rules of current gen only; it would balance a lot of things.

That's not terrible. Maybe make it like the weather and screens, make it default 5, 8 with the Float Stone or something.

Reduce the damage they do (I like the idea of having to set up themtwice to get full damage)

Add more Spinners/Defog users (Like, anyone with Gyro Ball should get Spin)

Or make somethin like Rock types "crunch" SR when switching in (Like Poison types and Toxic Spikes)
